Session Overview
Each month we choose a different theme and medium for the group to work with. This could take any form and we try and work to suggestions from the group themselves on themes they would like, these have included in the past; horrible histories, under the sea and outer space. From here we provide a medium for the group to work in be it dance, drama or visual arts. There is always an aspect of individual imagination and realization in each session and the participants are free to work on their own or in groups. This often leads to some quite wild interpretations of the theme, as the various interests and imaginings of the group are brought into the mix, which adds a great deal to the fun of the session!
The sessions always start with the participants sitting down and drawing on a large shared piece of paper. The drawings relate to the theme, but can also be of things of interest to the child that they may want to find a way of integrating into the session. This section provides a good relaxing time to focus the mind whilst we wait for the whole group to arrive.
We then move onto a name game to give everyone an opportunity to get to know each other and also to get everyone in the mood for being creative. Whilst we are in our circle we also introduce the various elements of the session and the materials and medium we will be working in.
Next we move onto the construction phase of the session, where the groups and individuals generate their ideas and start to create the aspects of their performance, be it props, dance moves or whatever else may be needed to realize their ideas. We then draw everything together, put the finishing touches on and then its time to.....
Perform their shows to the audience!!
